InformedMoney ("we", "us", "the app") helps UK users understand how HMRC tax rules apply to their personal finances. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how to exercise your rights under UK GDPR.

What we collect
1. Account data
- First name and last name — captured at signup, or on first Sign in with Apple if you use that option.
- Email address — used to sign you in.
- A randomly-assigned user ID — used to link your account to data you create.
2. On-device only (we never see this)
- Salary, bonus, RSU vesting events, pension contributions, ISA/LISA contributions, marital status, and other inputs you enter on the "Personal" tab. These remain on your device.
3. Sent to our servers when you use the "Ask" tab
- Your chat messages and the assistant's replies — stored linked to your account so you can see your history.
- A summary of your profile (the figures from item 2), included in the request body so the assistant can answer in context. This summary is forwarded to Google Gemini for response generation, then discarded by our servers — only a one-way hash is retained for debugging.
- Operational metadata: model name, response latency, message count.
4. We do not collect
- Crash logs, advertising identifiers, location, contacts, photos, device identifiers, browsing history, or any data we use for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Who we share data with
- Supabase — database and authentication, hosted in London, UK.
- Google Gemini — LLM provider, hosted in the US under Standard Contractual Clauses. Receives the profile summary and chat message to generate each reply, then deletes inputs after the short retention period stated in Google's API policy.
Legal basis (UK GDPR Article 6)
- Contract performance — running the app for you (account, chat).
- Legitimate interests — operational logging, fraud prevention.
Your rights
You can:
- Read your account data — visible in the Personal tab.
- Export your chat history — email us and we will send a CSV.
- Delete your account in-app (Settings → Delete account). All chat messages, profile snapshot hashes, and authentication records are erased within 30 days.
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
